About the Journey Programme

The Journey lies at the heart of Venture Scotland’s work and consists of four stages which can be undertaken by young people as stand-alone modules or as a programme lasting 12 months. Our recruitment stage involves a series of taster days to help young people get a feel for our programme. Those who stand to benefit most from participating and who show a real desire to change are then invited to join.

All stages of The Journey involve regular and frequent one-to-one support, structured group work and mentoring sessions at our centres in Edinburgh and Glasgow. The amount of regular contact our programme enables between our staff, volunteers and young people enables strong bonds to be formed where young people’s behaviour can be challenged in a supportive environment.

    • Challenge Stage
      Challenge Stage

The Challenge Stage immerses young people in activities that take them out of their comfort zones and familiar environments. We often make use of the local environment such as this group exploring a beach in East Lothian.

    • Adventure Stage
      Adventure Stage

The Adventure stage develops the capacity of young people to cope with change and the unexpected. This stage often takes participants further afield such as this group canoeing as a team on Loch Etive.

    • Leadership Stage

During the leadership stage, young people will take the lead in organising two expeditions and also deliver a presentation evening when they will receive the different awards they have been working towards during Challenge and Adventure.

    • Community Stage

Throughout the year young people will get involved in volunteering and placements, as well as developing skills such as CV writing and interview techniques with our corporate partners. We will also provide support in pursuing opportunities in education, employment, training and volunteering with external organisations.
