The Board

Venture Scotland is governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees who meet as a whole a minimum of four times a year, as well as contributing to various sub groups and committees to support the overall governance of the charity. 

  • Judith MacKinnon

    Judith is the Chair of Venture Scotland. In her day job she is Head of HR Governance for the Scottish Police Authority.  Her previous post was Director of HR and Programmes for SAMH.  She is also on the judging panel for the HR Network Scotland Awards.

  • Gill Rust

    Gill is the Company Secretary for Venture Scotland and is a Business Partner - Governance at The Chartered Banker Institute. Prior to that she was a senior manager at Standard Life.

  • Graeme Aithie

    Graeme is the Treasurer at Venture Scotland and chairs our Finance and Fundraising Committee. He is a Director at QMPF, an Edinburgh-based corporate finance business, and qualified as a chartered accountant while at PwC.

  • Andy Wadsworth

    Andy is our Vice Chair. He is an IT consultant and a highly qualified expedition leader in the UK and overseas.  Andy is a long term Venture Scotland volunteer and advises the board on Health and safety and risk management. 

  • Anja Balfour

    Anja is a former fund manager and currently a Non Executive Director at Martin Currie Asia Unconstrained Trust and Schroder Japan Growth Fund plc. Anja is one of the founding volunteers of Venture Scotland.

  • Dan Whaley

    Dan joined the board in 2014, and as well as being a regular Venture Scotland volunteer, he brings software and data management expertise.

  • Steven Doherty

    Steven Doherty has been working our brand strategy as a volunteer since May 2016 and joined the board in November 2016. Steven is a senior brand manager at Standard Life. Before this he worked in marketing, advertising and brand roles for Sky, Discovery Networks UK and News UK. 

  • Evelyn Simpson

    Evelyn is and executive coach and angel investor who joined the board of Trustees in 2016. She has lived and worked in cities around the world and has held board roles in various voluntary organisations in Europe, the USA and Asia.

  • Isobel Freeman

    Isobel has been volunteering with Venture Scotland for several years and joined our board of trustees in 2016. In her day job she is a senior business consultant supporting authorities to improve and develop the use of IT and brings with her skills in change management, business analysis and strategy.

  • Jonathan Heggie

    Jon joined the board of trustees in 2016. He is an experienced Third Sector senior manager who has a strong track record in strategic decision making across multiple income streams and communications activities.
