Jerome is our longest serving member of staff having joined VS in 2007. Initially employed as an Outdoor Youth Worker, Jerome has also been Team Leader and Acting Programme Manager at VS. In 2017 he began a new challenge taking on the role of Practice Development Manager.
George joined Venture Scotland in February 2018 as Manager for our Glasgow programme. With over 10 years experience in the charitable sector in Scotland, George has previously worked for a mental health charity, managed a development trust on the Isle of Coll and provided business consultancy to social enterprises across Scotland. Whilst on Coll, George founded a football team for young islanders, providing weekly coaching sessions. He is passionate about the outdoors and his most treasured experience was hiking over 500 miles across Spain to complete the Camino de Santiago
Rob, Glasgow Team Leader, has over 30 years experience in a variety of disciplines, including mountaineering, rock climbing, wilderness expeditions, paddling, gorge walking and DofE. his passion for the outdoors has taken him to many locations across the world including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Thailand and many countries in Europe. Robs initial contact with Venture Scotland was as a volunteer, offering his experience as a Mountain Guide on expedition residentials and day activities for several years. Rob is also our inhouse musician!
Chris returned to Venture Scotland in 2017 as an Outdoor Youth Worker having previously worked with us from 2013 – 2016 in a variety of roles, including Outdoor Worker, Acting Manager and Team leader. In-between he worked for the environmental charity The John Muir Trust, but he missed working with Young People and working outside in the great Scottish weather. Previously with The Outward Bound Trust for 12 years, finishing as a Senior instructor, he also completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Outdoor Education at Edinburgh University.
Chris's latest passion is road cycling. Usually he can be spotted very early on a Sunday morning with a couple of friends cycling the hills surrounding Glasgow, wondering (with leg burning while ascending another hill) why he is not in bed like most normal folk.
Tristan is one of our Outdoor Youth Workers for the Glasgow team.
Tristan has been enjoying the outdoors through hillwalking, climbing and kayaking all his life. He has been working in this sector for over 10 years, which has included taking young people all over Scotland to experience its wilderness and beauty and also leading trips further abroad to Asia and Africa. He started working with Venture Scotland in 2015 and has enjoyed working with the groups, especially at our beautiful bothy. The best part about his job is seeing the people we work with becoming proud of the who they are, and finally realising what they can achieve.
Joanne is one of our Outdoor Youth Workers for the Glasgow team. Joanne has worked with the public all of her life, as a personal trainer and also managing coffee shops. She felt there was something missing in her line of work and started volunteering with Venture Scotland in 2010. Joanne has just completed her final year at Glasgow university completing my BA Community Development Degree and will now progress to Honours. You are most likely to find Joanne running some marathon or jumping out a plane raising money for a good cause.
David is the Programme Manager for our Edinburgh team. During his 20 year career as an architect, David volunteered running a youth club for 10 years, sat on East Lothian’s Childrens Panel and volunteered for Venture Scotland for 3 years as well as being a trustee of the charity. When the opportunity came to turn his hobby into his job, he couldn’t resist! David ensures the smooth running of the Edinburgh programme while focusing on making sure staff, volunteers, young people, resources and funding all come together in the same place at the same time. David is a keen rock climber and mountaineer. His best part of working for Venture Scotland is meeting amazing young people who don’t realise the potential the really have.
Robin has been working with Venture Scotland as a freelancer for over three years and is very happy to be part of the team as the Team Leader for Edinburgh, helping young people to achieve positive, sustainable change in their lives. He has been walking, climbing and generally messing about in the outdoors for most of his life and working in the Outdoor Industry for over ten years. He holds the Mountaineering Instructor Award and works in his spare time as a mountaineering and climbing instructor and guide. He also enjoys messing about in boats and has fallen into many of the Lochs and rivers in Scotland. Robin also enjoys climbing things. Preferably big, scary things, just in case there isn’t enough excitement in his day job.
Anouska joined the team at the end of 2016 as one of our Outdoor Youth Workers following 2 years working as an outdoor instructor. Having worked in the Police service for 10 years she has a passion for supporting the community, and encouraging them to get outdoors and enjoy the adventures to be had. Anouska can often be found hiking or climbing and has a fondness for bushcraft and canoeing.
Sarah has joined us in April 2017 after five years freelancing in the outdoor education, youth development and adventure tourism industries. She is extremely passionate about the impact spending time outdoors has on mental health. She loves working alongside young people, helping them discover hidden talents, self-belief and confidence. Sarah can mostly be found floating about in boats or falling off bikes, accompanied by lots of laughter.
In July 2017 we were delighted to welcome Mo Samson as an Outdoor Youth Worker in the Edinburgh delivery team. Mo joins us following a career break from outdoor instructing while she ran her family farm, growing the business to include a farm shop and café. Mo's passions include paddling and climbing so she couldn't resist the opportunity to get back to the outdoors and adventure!
