Discover yourself
Programme Summary
You took huge steps outside your comfort zone during “Challenge Yourself”, it’s now time to step inwards and “Discover Yourself”.
In a busy and complicated world, it’s often hard to know where we fit in and who we really are, so over 9 weeks including a 5-day residential to our Glen Etive bothy, this stage of the programme will firstly, give you the tools to be able to understand your emotions, secondly, give you the skills to communicate them effectively and finally, guide you towards ways to maintain positive relationships in your life.
Discover Structure
WEEKS 1 – 8
Over the next 8 weeks, we’ll meet 2 days a week – one day will consist of an afternoon session for our ‘development day’ and the next day will be a full activity day.
DEVELOPMENT DAYS
Each ‘Development Day’ will focus on a different topic which builds on understanding your emotions, communication skills and maintaining positive relationships. Throughout this stage, we will delve into various theories, such as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory, which explores the reasons behind our emotions, and Choice Theory, shedding light on decision-making processes in our lives. We will also cover Communication Theory, examining how we convey messages effectively, and discuss topics like “Bully or Banter” and “Quality Worlds” which look at understanding our interactions with others and identifying our values and what’s important to us. We’ll also look at topics such as looking after your mental health, consent and creating coping strategies.
ACTIVITY DAYS
The second day of each week will be an activity day and a chance to continue stepping outside your comfort zone and put into practice all your new skills. These sessions will take place locally and across Scotland and will be a mix of:
Hill walking
Orienteering
Rock Climbing
Canoeing
Kayaking
Raft Building
Stand Up Paddle boarding
Weaselling
Gorge Walking
Coasteering
WEEK 9
After 8 weeks of development and discovery, you now have the opportunity to use all the skills you have learnt on a 5-day bothy residential to our private bothy in Glen Etive. In stunning surroundings, we’ll focus on our communication, team building and assertiveness through a mixture of sessions, games, and reviews. We’ll also take in the incredible location with a walk to Loch Etive or through the surrounding hills.
Every trip ends with pizza night – hand-rolled, homemade pizzas, cooked in our very own clay pizza oven with the mountains and stars as our backdrop – and most likely a debate about pineapple on pizza?!
Following the bothy trip, we’ll arrange to get back together as a group to look at the photos and chat about your experiences. You’ll also have the chance to have a 1-2-1 with your programme leader.
