In loving memory of Jamie Black and Cozmo

Jamie Black and his beloved German Shepherd, Cozmo, shared an extraordinary bond and a love for life that touched everyone around them. After their passing earlier this year, Jamie’s family found a meaningful way to celebrate their legacy by supporting Venture Scotland. We are so grateful for their support. This tribute reflects Jamie and Cozmo’s shared passion for the outdoors and their generous, caring spirits, ensuring their impact will continue to inspire others for years to come.

Jamie was a fun, generous and loving person who was always there for others. He had an infectious smile and a real sense of adventure. Cozmo was Jamie’s boy, through and through; his relaxed, gentle and loving German Shepherd. Jamie saw Cozmo as his son, and he included Cozmo in everything he did, particularly the outdoor adventures from camping to hikes to dancing in the pouring rain!

Jamie was always outdoorsy and would find any excuse to spend time outside, especially if there could be a campfire or barbecue! Jamie and Cozmo would take 10 days to go for epic birthday adventures to celebrate together, loving the opportunity to experience new things or new places.

When Jamie and Cozmo both passed away earlier this year, their family knew that they wanted to do something to honour their memory, and supporting other young people through Venture Scotland felt right. Helping 16-30 year old’s to make amazing memories whilst supporting their mental health meant a lot to Mum Vivienne and siblings Mia and Euan, because Jamie was his best, most carefree-self when he was outdoors – and even more so if the people that he loved were there.

Jamie and his sister Mia had taken a trip together to Inverness, and enjoyed their time together so much that they continued over the bridge to the Black Isle, not wanting the day to end and with no plan or idea of where to go next, just enjoying their time together and stopping regularly to take beautiful photographs of the scenery or have a look around. Vivienne, Mia and Euan remember Christmases together fondly. From when they were kids and Jamie, who was the eldest, yet the most excited – getting Mia and Euan up to open their stockings all together before heading downstairs! Vivienne remembers more recent Christmases with PJ’s all day, bacon rolls for breakfast and Christmas films on the TV. It was one of Jamie’s favourite times of the year, getting to spend it with the people he loved.

Jamie was one of a kind, he was caring and funny, making work fun for colleagues, and winding friends and family up to the point that they could do nothing but laugh with him. He was a big character with a warm smile and an excellent dog-parent to Cozmo.

The generous donations that were made in Jamie and Cozmo’s memory at the funeral and through the tribute page on JustGiving will support Venture Scotland to help more young people, creating incredible memories in beautiful parts of Scotland and supporting them to find their own love of camping and campfires, as Jamie did.

One of Jamie and Cozmo’s favourite places to be was Lochnagar, and his family have decided that for Jamie’s next Birthday they are going to go up to a cottage in the area to scatter his and Cozmo’s ashes in a beautiful place that meant a lot to them.

Thank you to Jamie, Cozmo and their friends and family for all that you have done to support other young people in Scotland in memory of two lovely personalities.
