Venture Scotland is incredibly lucky to have a brilliant Board of Trustees who support every aspect of our work from the oversight needed to keep a charity like ours going, to the daily volunteering, driving minibuses and spending time with our participants.
Today, we’re introducing our Trustee, Charlie.
I am passionate about the outdoors and enjoy all aspects of outdoor life, including in particular cycling, hillwalking and skiing. The sense of freedom and enjoying the beauty of the scenery (particularly in good company) bring me great joy, as well as the mental and physical health benefits.
Venture Scotland’s previous Chair, Evelyn asked if I’d help with the risk management process on a pro bono basis, and once I started, I was struck by the great work being done by VS and the enthusiasm of the staff and volunteers, and the mission struck a chord within me, so that when I was asked if I would like to join the Board, I jumped at the chance.
As a Trustee and Company Secretary for Venture Scotland, I focus on risk management, corporate governance and compliance – all the boring but very important stuff! I like being able to contribute in some small way to the continued success of VS, which I believe brings great support to a much neglected section of our young adult population. Getting to see the response from programme participants – particularly at awards ceremonies – is very moving.
As well as the personal satisfaction that we as board members obtain, Venture Scotland is constantly in need of input from people with a wide range of skills and backgrounds, in order to continue to thrive and support young people in need.
