We like to think we have the BEST volunteers going, a group of like-minded people who come together to help young people achieve their goals!
You don’t have to be ‘outdoorsy’ to be part of the team, there are plenty of ways to get involved even if hiking boots and waterproofs aren’t your thing, but you do need to be passionate about helping young people achieve their goals – that passion is the drive behind everything we do here at Venture Scotland.
Absolutely nothing. We provide everything you need. You can borrow kit if you do not have your own and we also cover your travel expenses.
You don’t need any formal training to volunteer with us. We will put you through our volunteer induction programme that teaches you to deal with difficult situations, the sort of exercises and methods we teach and give you more of an overview of the course. We also run a hill walking day and bothy trip just for new volunteers to get used to their surroundings before you work with the young people.
We accept volunteers of all fitness and experience levels. Whether you regularly summit Ben Nevis or have never climbed Arthur’s Seat, we want to hear from you.
For most of our young people, this is the first time they will be taking part in activities such as hill walking and as such we go at a relaxed pace.
Ideally volunteers would be able to commit to a minimum of 10 days per year. This can be broken down over individual activity days or bothy trips and expeditions.
We send out regular updates with upcoming days and expeditions for you to sign up for based on your own calendar and existing commitments.
Yes, but this is something we can arrange for you at no cost.
Not to worry – you can pick and choose the activities you volunteer on. Start with the activities you are comfortable with and feel free to volunteer for new activities along the way!
